MAGTEC Magnetic Manhole Cover Lifting Set (Magnet + Trolley)

An average build person can easily lift a cover equal to their own weight using any Manhole system. Drain covers can vary considerably in weight, but the majority will fall in the range 40 to 80 kg.

The Manhole Lifting Trolley is essentially a mobile lever, pivoting on its wheels and having two lifting points, the forward lifting hook for balanced lifting and carriage of covers and a pair of High Leverage lifting pins through which the cover unseating capability is accessed. The Manhole trolley delivers a mechanical advantage of just over 2.3:1 through the forward lifting hook, so a modest downward force of 25 kg on the trolley handle, translates into a lifting effort approaching 60 kg at the other end. The High Leverage lifting pins are positioned to deliver a mechanical advantage greater than 5:1 which means the 25 kg downward effort inputted by the user translates into a lifting force greater than 125 kg.

At the heart of the system configuration is the Mega Magnet. This requires no external power or recharging. A simple lever with a safety interlock provides On-Off control. Simply place the magnet on the drain cover, activate it by rotating the On-Off lever, engage the lifting trolley and either unseat or lift the cover, depending upon which stage of the process you are undertaking. It is important to note that when placed on the cover, the magnet becomes part of the load. Therefore, the nett lifting capacity of the system becomes 128 kg (150 minus the 22 kg weight of the magnet).

The MagTec solution is fast and flexible, most notably because the cover key slots do not need to be rid of the dirt that gathers in them as a result of passing traffic, waterflows etc. As with all Manhole Buddy solutions, it pays to use the High Leverage facility on the trolley to unseat the cover. With the MagTec, place the magnet at the edge of the cover and engage the inner High Leverage lifting pins with the sloping slots on the lifting hanger. When the cover has been unseated (in some situations, you may need to apply the unseating effort at different points on the cover edge), reposition the magnet centrally for balanced cover lifting.
